I’m Kathryn, a business branding photographer, family and newborn photographer, wedding photographer, and Life Stories videographer based at my home studio in East Grinstead. I work across the South East, including West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey, Kent, and London. I’m also the creator of Life Stories through Kathryn Feck Photography & Film, where I capture professional brand imagery for businesses and heartfelt storytelling videos and photographs for families because whether it’s your company or your loved ones, your story deserves to be seen, remembered, and cherished for years to come.
Before anything else, I’m a wife to my lovely husband Justin who is a Sports Picture Editor for a national newspaper, and Mummy to our two wonderful boys, Henry aged 6 and Theo aged 4. I'm surrounded by boys who likes trains, and you’ll often find us at the Bluebell Railway or visiting another steam railway somewhere in the country. Arts and crafts, Lego creations and play-doh are often on the agenda, and we’re also a huge Disney family and never miss a chance to visit Disneyland Paris! I’m a complete hopeless romantic at heart, which probably explains why I care so deeply about love, connection, and the little moments that make life feel magical. I used to compete in golf and hope to one day return to it when life feels a little less full. I love dancing and karaoke, adore the theatre, I’m partial to a mojito, nothing beats a proper roast dinner, and chocolate strawberries are my absolute weakness.
Photography has been part of me for as long as I can remember. When I was about seven, I had a little pink Snappy Snaps camera, and one of the very first things I photographed was a rather large bull at a family member’s farm - brave or slightly questionable judgement, I’m still unsure! Some of my most treasured childhood memories are going with my Mum to Fielder’s Photographic Shop in Sevenoaks to get our films developed. We’d always choose the cheaper option that meant waiting longer, and then return days later to collect the prints. We went so often that I remember how the man in the shop always recognised my Mum. Opening the packet of photos was pure magic. Some were blurry. Some completely missed the subject. But some were perfect. Thankfully my photography has improved over the years and I no longer miss the subject!! But I still get that excitement looking through, now digitals, to see how they've come out. It's also very cute that Henry and Theo both have little cameras and are following in the family footsteps!
Growing up, my Mum always had a camera in her hand. She captured everything from birthdays, holidays, parties, messy kitchens and ordinary afternoons. She loved a photo and most of the family would groan when the camera came out again! But I never minded, and was always happy to smile at Mum and get selfies together......we had lots of those, back before selfies were even popular! In 2008, we lost her to cancer. She was just 55, and I was 23. Life as we knew it changed in that moment, and photographs stopped being “pictures” and became something else entirely. They became proof she was here. Proof of her laugh. Proof of her love. I would give anything to hear her voice, see her reactions, and talk to her again. This is exactly why I know capturing Life Stories is so important. These are the moments, voices, connections, and details that I aim to preserve for families today, through beautiful storytelling videos and photographs that become treasured keepsakes for generations.
Whether it’s everyday life with your children, family celebrations, or the story of your business, these images and videos help you remember not just what life looked like, but what it felt like. One of my greatest sadnesses is that, like so many mums, my own was usually behind the camera. We have very few photographs of all of us together. That is why I feel so strongly about capturing everyone - especially mums - in the frame. Because one day, your memories in photographs and videos will be the ones you hold onto the tightest.
Before building my photography business, I worked in finance and as a PA. I’ve always been organised, detail-focused and driven - in fact, I sat my final finance exam when I was seven months pregnant with Theo. Shortly after that, I made the leap from the corporate world into creativity. I had always felt the pull toward working with children or doing something artistic, I even qualified as a teaching assistant during years ago, thinking it might be useful as a Mum working around the children. After having professional newborn photos taken of Henry and feeling they didn’t capture what I had hoped for, I re-did them myself. That moment changed everything. I started Kathryn Feck Photography & Film when I was pregnant with Theo, and I’m incredibly proud to have built my business from the ground up while raising two young children. Through pregnancies, post natal depression, house renovations, studio builds, and toddler chaos, I’ve grown a photography business serving families and businesses across the South East.
Today I work with personal brands, entrepreneurs, and growing businesses to create high-quality professional photography that reflects their brand identity and supports their marketing. Alongside my branding work, I’m also a family and newborn photographer in East Grinstead, capturing natural lifestyle newborn sessions, relaxed family photography, intimate wedding photography, and school and preschool portraits across the South East.
In recent years, after Henry was diagnosed autistic, I have immersed myself in learning about neurodiversity so I could advocate for him fully. Through that journey, I was diagnosed autistic and ADHD myself as an adult. I wasn't fond of school, never really felt as though I fit I, was incredibly shy and eventually home educated. Understanding this about myself has been transformative. It explains why it was so hard to fit into the mould at school, it explains my creativity, my ability to hyper-focus, my deep empathy, and attention to detail. It also means I am especially aware of sensory needs, overwhelm, and the importance of creating a calm, supportive, and accommodating environment for everyone I work with. At the heart of everything I do is connection. Real moments. Real stories. Real people. I feel genuinely honoured every time a family invites me to document their story, because I know how much those images and videos will one day mean. Your photographs and Life Stories videos won’t just show what life looked like - they will remind you how it felt. One day, these moments will be all you have left and I want to help you keep them alive forever.
I've never been one to shy away from risk taking, and always love a challenge (queue a family photoshoot, with animals, and toddlers and babies!) In all seriousness though, I am so excited about the future of Kathryn Feck Photography and Film and feel very lucky that I get to call this my job, and meet so many lovely people along the way.
